1. What type of boats do you use?

Our boats are 5 meter and 7 meter rubber boats, outboard engines designed to cruise at 15-20 knots. They are equipped with well padded bench seating for your comfort.

2. What is unique about your boats?

Los Vikingos Nature trips have two 25' custom designed Zodiac vessels (Viking I, Viking II). These zodiac style vessels combine speed with extraordinary stability to cruise at 15-20 knots. They give an intense hands-on experience of the sea and the marine environment, reaching places larger ships can’t.

3. What is the ride like?

Exciting and sometimes quite adventurous. The nautical ones, can be wet or smooth and dry or any combination of the two. A typical trip has ocean spray dousing passengers somewhere along the route. The land trips are more conventional and less “adventurous”.

7. What is unique about Los Vikingos Nature Trips?

Los Vikingos Nature Trips started in 1994, and after 10 years of experience, and genuine love for what we do as a really small company we grew slowly and steadily… but so many people enjoyed our trips that we’re now a bit of what we were in the early days. Even so, we like to preserve our personal touch and help you to discover Deseado’s jewels. The presence of a trained naturalist on every trip ensures an enjoyable and educational experience.

Each trip is crewed by two friendly, professional members of the staff. - a vessel pilot and a trained naturalist with expertise on commerson’s dolphins, and other marine mammals and sea birds.

10. Where do you go?

Routes vary depending on the trip you select. See our itineraries.

11. Do you see dolphins on every trip?

It varies unexpectedly, although you have a 99% off probabilities of sighting the dolphins in each trip.

12. Is there any way I can be guaranteed of seeing commerson’s dolphin in the wild?

No. There are 99% of possibilities to sight the dolphins. We know the places where they usually are but their presence depends on factors yet unknown. This works best in spring and austral summer when commerson’s dolphin sightings are more frequent.

13. What is there to see apart from marine mammals and sea birds?

Plenty. Commercial fishing vessels, tugs towing barges or log booms, naval ships, freighters, sailboats, hang gliders, shoreline reefs, islands, kelp beds, lighthouses, waves, mirages, sunsets, petrified logs, fossils, land animals, an ever changing sea seascape and more.

14. Is seasickness a problem?

Generally not. The fresh air and stability of the boat counteract seasickness exceptionally well. Take your favorite motion sickness medicine if you have any doubts.

15. How should I dress?

Patagonia’s weather is unpredictable and one can have the four seasons in one day. Either for the nautical o land trips, during the warm summer period, light summer clothing and slacks is fine although it is a good idea to bring along a warm sweater (it is surprisingly cool traveling fast over the surface of the water). On cool days or on evening trips long pants, sweaters, snug fitting hat and warm footwear are required.

16. What should I bring?

Sunglasses, camera, binoculars in water proof cases, tight fitting hat and sunscreen.

No - all part of the adventure! Avoid excessive fluid intake, especially coffee, tea and alcohol in the hour preceding departure.

The nautical rides can be uncomfortable or painful if you are pregnant or neck problems.
